Ann Taves

Ann Taves is Research Professor and Distinguished Professor (Emerita) of Religious Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara.  She has long-standing interests in theory and method as they relate to the historical, comparative, and scientific study of non-ordinary experiences. She is the author of numerous articles and books, including Fits, Trances, and Visions (Princeton, 1999), Religious Experience Reconsidered (Princeton, 2009), and Revelatory Events (Princeton, 2016). She led the teams that developed and validated the Inventory of Nonordinary Experiences. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2011) and past president of the American Academy of Religion (2010).
