Otávio Cabral-Marques

IDOR Researcher | Professor of Molecular Medicine at FM-USP

Otávio Cabral-Marques is an Associate Professor of Molecular Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FM-USP), in the Department of Internal Medicine. He represents the category of Associate Professor (MS-3) on the Council of the aforementioned Department. He is a researcher at IDOR. His work involves integrative systemic analysis of neuroimmunological networks to understand the immune response and new molecular mechanisms in depression, infections, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. Previously, he held the position of Visiting Full Professor in the Department of Pharmacy at the Health Sciences Center of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, from August 29, 2022, to April 10, 2023. Currently, he serves as a Full Advisor in the Departments of Internal Medicine, Immunology, and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (FCF/USP), as well as a Part-time Advisor in the Interunit Graduate Program in Bioinformatics at the University of São Paulo (USP). He holds a degree in Biology from the Regional University of Blumenau (2001-2005), earned a Master's degree (2006-2008), and a PhD (2008-2012) in Immunology from the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at USP. He completed a Sandwich PhD at the University of Washington School of Medicine and the Seattle Children's Research Institute, in Seattle, WA, USA, from December 2010 to May 2011. He also did postdoctoral work in Brazil (University of São Paulo; 2012-2015) and in Germany (Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, University of Lübeck: October 2015 to April 2019; and Center for Chronic Immunodeficiency (CCI), Medical Center, University of Freiburg: April 2015 to November 2019). Additionally, he serves as Junior Ambassador of Brazil in the Network of Immunity in Infection, Malignancy, and Autoimmunity (NIIMA), part of the Universal Scientific Education and Research Network (USERN).
